Traveling with heart and soul
My story begins when I was given the opportunity to travel abroad for undergraduate work at my University in 2010. An unexperienced traveler, I thought of Spain as a vacation spot with white sand beaches and bull running.
Little did I know the place I would come to know was much, much more. I began to fall in love for the first time with a destination on a map. A city, a country, and a culture had me head over heels in just 3 short months. Only fools rush in, right?
I returned to visit and work for another 3 month increment the next year before I finally decided to make the move for a full year, and begin my post-grad life in another country.
I spent last year in the city of Valladolid (Vaya-doh-leed) in the northwest autonomous community of Castilla y León. This year it's my turn to take on Salamanca, a beautiful place full of University students and an ambiance which gives it the nickname of the 'golden city'.
Having a relationship with another country like I do is not a normal thing as it is, and my love for Spain is something that I’m not ashamed of. I plan to spend the next year submerged in the culture I love, taking in the siestas, the fiestas, and everything in between!

Mis favoritosSpanish Food: Tortilla de patatas. No, croquettes. No, huevos fritos. Okay, I can't decide. I love them all. It changes with each and every bite.
Spanish Wine: The sweet white wines from the Rueda region of Spain made from the verdejo grape. When ordering, just ask for "Rueda" and taste the magic. Spanish Music: One of my favorite bands straight out of Madrid with a pop-rock feel- Pereza, spanish for laziness. Spanish Word: I have a silly one, and a meaningful one. Mantequilla. (mahn-teh-key-yah). It just rolls off your tounge. Meaning: butter. Disfrutar. (dis-fruit-ar) The verb that means "to enjoy". The epitome of the Spanish Lifestyle. |
